This is just a tree, growing out of the hillside.
I’ve always liked how the clouds hang below the mountain. It’s a cool feeling, being above the clouds and watching the sun set like this.
Then it gets cold.
It’s a long, windy road to the top of Mt. Hamilton, and sometimes the weather gets… weird. It’s only an hour out from San Jose but the weather feels like a whole nother state.
The sunsets up here are just amazing. I’ve shot a lot of sunsets, but nothing’s come close to this.
Night photography is fun. Nobody’s around, and everything’s dark. Not so when you’re at an active observatory. When the sun goes down, this place lights up.
The night view from the mountain is breathtaking. Seriously. I’ve spent a lot of nights just watching the lights below. It’s amazing.
One of the telescopes there uses laser adaptive optics, and I grabbed this photo one night while it was running.
